Variety of problems lies in the existing J5 or J6 type of livestock cars. Such as, low speed, low utilizing rate of axis weight, backward technical indexes, without excrement collecting device, etc. The travel speed is too low to adapt to the large scale speed-up of railroad freight transportation or match the travel speed of 120 km/h of new-made car; without excrement collecting device , it does not adapt the development trend of that the country is increasingly strengthening environmental protection and epidemic prevention.Based on the present state of livestock car home and abroad, and requirements of new-type livestock car raised by clients. One that is better optimized is selected from the four design proposals. In selected design, the travel speed is increased, excrement collecting device is equipped, the condition of supervising room is improved, and airtight steel floor is adopted to decrease the corrosion to the car body, as well as, space is left for equipping electricity generator and excrement collecting device in future.In this paper, design work is made on the selected proposal. And detail analysis is made on the technical parameters. Integrated steel structure is designed based on the existing livestock cars, and local steel structure of car body is proved. The travel speed is improved by adopting K2 type bogie whose spring is partly taken out, and making use of air - braking device, e. g. air- control valve of 120type of rolling stock etc. The load capacity, utilizing rate of axis weight and the number of loaded pigs per meter is improved by increasing the length of car. Collecting all the waste is realized by equipping the excrement collecting device. Living conditions of supercargo is improved by equipping toilet, ventilator, and fluorescent lamp, as well as increasing the thickness of insulator layer in supervising room. Condition of livestock van is improved by increasing the thickness of insulator layer in livestock van and enlarging the capacity of water tank to increase the water consumption for cooling the van. Anti-corrosion material is adopted to prolong the use life of the car.Here finite element structural analysis is made on the new type livestock car. The adopted analysis software is I-DEAS(10. 1) of the famous SDRC Company in America. Two calculation modals are created: for modal analysis, integrated structure-analysis modal is created; for other load conditions, l/2structure-analysis modal is created. The results are: under the vertical static load, the max vertical distortion at the mid of side girder of the car body is 8. 93mm and 9. 64mm at mid of mid-girder. It means that the rigidity of the car body meet the requirements of TB/T1335-1996. For the max Von. Mises stress under the four kinds of load condition, none of them is over the allowable stress of 09V and 09CuPTiRE-B, and the car body can meet the strength requirement in travel. The results say both the strength and rigidity of the car body are in accordance with the design requirements. Parameter calculations of the design are made in this paper, such as, brake distance at a first braking speed of 120km/h, ability of traveling through hump section, and so on.
