Besides their aestheticism and functionality, the most important aspect of gardens is to give people spiritual experience. Along with the development of modern Chinese gardens, many problems also arise, such as the loss of the Significance of national culture, the destroying of the tradition the destroying of the tradition , the phenomenon of the landscape in the commercial landscape size-fits-all, all of which causes the loss of landscape-centered spirit. Traditional literati gardens have rich psychological implication, and emphasize the unity of environment and spiritual pursuit of user. To those literati, garden is not only a need of material life, but also the condolences to their spirit, and offers the place of their spiritual life. Its emphasis on the unity of environment and spiritual pursuit of user makes environment a symbol of people's spiritual life. Excitation is a direct manifestation of people's inner spiritual world. Therefore, we can draw some references for the modern garden design from the analysis of the excitation design of the traditional literati gardens and the discussion of its expression means.Firstly, through the discussion on the rise and development of the literati gardens, this thesis finds that it is the traditional Chinese culture that forms the reason for which those literati wanted to build gardens. Then the thesis explores and analyses the main content of traditional Chinese culture and its influence on literati's excitation of building gardens. And it comes to a summery of the feudal literati's excitation of building gardens and its direct manifestation during building, at the same time including an explanation of the excitation design. In the end, based on the former parts and combining the illustration of some classic cases of modern landscape, the article summarizes the design methods of modern landscape on how to express people's spiritual needs. And under the principle of practicality, this article uses these methods to give some case analysis on Xi'an Zhong Gulou square and Beijing Zhongguancun Life and Science Park.
