The research object of this paper is the ancient villages that preserved well and the traditional architecture of these villages in the Phoenix town, Zha Shui county. The Phoenix town has its own typical features on the street configuration, architecture composition and spatial distribution, which is dual influenced by immigrant culture and commercial culture. Through the research and integration of the materials about the Phoenix town, this paper explores the methods and approaches which can protect this historic and cultural heritage.This paper includes seven chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, which presents the research purpose and significance, the research methods, the frame of this paper and the relevant research status in quo. The second chapter states the historical development and the geographical environment in the Phoenix town, Zha Shui country. The third chapter describes the spatial pattern and the regional culture in the Phoenix town. And through the investigation of the site choice and spatial distribution in this historic town, the spatial character and underlying connotation is analyzed. The fourth chapter is focused on the spatial analysis of street distribution in the Phoenix town, which is based on the explorations of street's structure, function, scale and correlative scene. From the view of the architectural function and spatial distribution, the fifth chapter specifies the architectural style and feature in the historic town. The sixth chapter brings forward the preservation and the developmental prospects in the Phoenix town, which is based on the analysis and evaluation of actuality. In the last chapter, the whole paper is summarized.
