The R.C. frame structure with special—shaped columns is one kind of new residential building which has only been researched in the recent 20 years. This type of building is filled with lightweight material filler-walls that make it lightweight, heat-preservation and benefit to the anti-seismic design. In the practical engineering, the frame-structure with special-shaped columns has obtained great society and economic benefit. This kind of structure has been popular used in Guan}zhou, Tianjin and Shanghai etc. The practice proved that the frame structure with special—shaped columns has so many advantages such as being changed easily, economical and low price, what's more, its residential environment is better than normal RC structure and the space can be taken efficiently advantage of. The R.C frame structures with special-shaped columns used in residential construction in recent years, for their unique qualities, are widely welcomed by the users and have been wined a wide development. The paper is divied into two parts:(1) Through massive calculation,analysis and comparison,sum up the similarities and differences between the special-shaped cross sections and rectangular cross sections in mechanical features, between reinforced concrete special-shaped columns and rectangular columns in load-bearing capacity,ductility performance and provide necessary basic concepts and data for further understanding the characteristics of the special-shaped columns;(2) Based on the SAP2000, static non-linear analysis is be done in this part.Push-over analysis can be used to find out weak points of frame structures so that you don't have to waste your time to modify the whole package of your design.Furthermore,the capacity spectrum method was applied to evaluate the anti-seismic performance of the frames.The performance points indicate that the performance is compatible with the objectives of the design.
