And as one of the elements to the space of cities, public establishment has been an indispensable part of city image construction. Aero Saarinen, American construction and industry designer, said, "Judged by your city, I can tell what kind of culture the resident of the city pursues." He added, "City is a book opened, in which you can find its object and ambition."City public establishment is closely connected to the resident's daily life. While it realizes its own function, it also reflects the city's feature and elegant demeanor. Public installation displays the city's economic strength, while displays the townspeople's life quality and deliver the culture art information of the city.With the increase development of the society economy, people require higher quality of life environment. As a result, the construction and improvement of city public establishment become quite urgent. And the most prominent problem is that the comprehensive development of city public establishment lacks a kind of design conception which is innovative, healthy and systematic. The author considered, we should precise orientate for the design value of public installation. From the perspective of industrial design, analysis the design features of public installation, thereby put forward the new design concept. These have the practical significance for the whole level of city design.Before, I got to know that Kevin Lynch classify American sign system into five city image composing elements. They are Street, Edge, District, Node and Landmark. Landmark there refers to programming and design of identifier system. It is an important index to a city development. It's the same case in Europe. They attach much to importance the urban planning and design of city identifier as well. According to the different development level of history and culture, their various geographical locations, and the characteristic of sustainable development of natural eco-environment, some European countries study visual communication manual law, which is in accordance with its own city and environment planning aesthetics. And they establish an identifier system helpful for resident to use the standardization unity, which create a city environment of virtuous circle and high efficiency for many countries. Through the city design experience of those developed countries, the sign system design which coexist as the public environment become the indispensable component in the research of the city design comprehensive application. Because of the new and high technology management involved, the applied fulfils about the city sign system and environment plan esthetics is becoming systematization and standardization, and its manage system became constant perfect.Firstly, this article conveys the idea of a city's over-all image by referring to the employment of traditional culture in China's modern city construction and by the design of signs in city's public facility, and talks about how to convey the culture information effectively taking the contradiction between tradition preservation and modern construction as a breakthrough. Secondly, this article inspects the role public facility plays in conveying local culture and in city's modernization, which leads to a deeper knowledge of how to embody traditional culture in China's present city tourism culture construction. Thirdly, this article deals with the application of cultural signs in city's tourism public facility in the way instruction system taking the development of Sichuan Three Kingdom Tourism Route and the development of special cultural tourism of the medium and small towns as examples. Lastly, this article comes up with some constructive suggestions and advices on the following questions: how to make use of the cultural signs in the way instruction design; how to convey and recognize information in a more reasonable way; how to keep culture essence in economy development and preserve tradition in modern design.
