Public Facility In Chongqing Review On Visual Design Of Manhole Cover

There is a huge quantity of public facilities, which have a close relationship with our daily life. What's more, they not only fulfill their own functions but also, together with architectures, reflect features and splendors of the city. The civil public facilities show the economic power of the city, the living quality of citizens as well as the cultural and art atmosphere of the city. With the reservation of the basic functions, the visual redesign of public facilities can bring additional functions to meet the users'satisfaction and to upgrade the cultural taste of the facilities.Every city bears a unique inner character and profound cultural foundation. Urban public facilities can be functioned as a reflection of the humanity of the city, which has to be practiced by the visual redesign. Hence, the research on visual redesign of public facilities, which is an important part of urban composition, should be done reasonably in accordance with the local situation. That is to say, both the history and the culture of the city should be combined with the visual redesign of the public facilities. In order to give an overall study on the visual redesign of public facilities, this paper refers to the results from design art, culturology, sociology and aesthetic psychology researches and discusses the cultural and symbolic significance, multi-functions of the visual redesign as well as its spiritual interaction with human being. The research discusses how to arrange and distribute the extrinsic appearance of the public facility to match the people and the environment. It also discusses how the humanistic spirit and significance lying in the images of public facilities interact with human spiritual activities. As clothing, food, housing and transportation are four essential requirements of human beings, it is necessary for us to learn their feelings and states when they are using public facilities so as to provide better services for people and to show the"people-centered"philosophy. Before this, the visual design of public facilities has drawn little attention and the research on it has been very general. The research which studies the visual redesign of public facilities from a brand new perspective and from every tiny detail provides theory and methods to upgrade the overall cultural image of Chongqing. This paper focuses on the manhole cover, which has been a blank in the visual design of public facility. It analyses the history and the current situation of visual design for manhole cover nationwide and worldwide. At the same time it puts forward the idea that the visual design of public facility can promote the cultural image of the city which brings the expectation of the visual design of urban public facilities.
