The thesis researches on the essential meaning of skin renewal of old buildings, dialogize to the essence of space as well.The aim is using skin renewal as a"medium"to find the old buildings substrate.Instead of creating new skin of buildings, it uses new way of reconstruction to give a second life of well-known form,material or configuration. Researching on the contradiction between the old characteristic and new modality, this thesis tries to open out the relationship of"skin-buildings-city"and the change of the space itself. It also contributes to the city space development.Along with the deepening of skin renewal, reconstruction explores new phenomenon, slove new problems.The thesis discusses the changes of both the old space and the whole city surface under the skin renewal. Without doubt, the result is to regenerate the space of old buildings and old local area.There is a mistake that we only consider the skin as decoration of buildings, neglect the rule of skin itself and also ignore the relation between skin and other elements of old buildings.The history of skin development is not this thesis'emphases.We discuss the value of skin renewal which contains the normal or special problems.All of those will offer the old buildings a practical significance in future. The skin renewal itself is not a logistic theorem, which will be used agilely in futher process of rebuilding.
