Suspen-dome is a novel and reasonable of long-span hybrid space structure based upon the single-layer spherical lattice shell and the tensegrity system. It can improve the stability behavior of the shell effectively, increase resistance to buckling and make the erection method of suspen-domes easier than cable-domes, so it has a widely practical perspective. In recently years, with the successful designs of pint-sized suspend-domes, some researchers abroad and home have carried on a series of researches on the suspend-dome design and the erection method, but the investigations on elasto-plastic stability of suspend-dome, especially the limit load after taking into consideration of geometrical nonlinearity and material nonlinearity, the meliorative degree of the cables to the shell and the influence of some parameters on the stability, and so on, have not yet quantified results. Therefore it is very valuable in both theoretical and practical meaning to carry out systematical researches in elastio-platic stability of suspen-domes.Based on the thoughts, by using commercial finite element software ANSYS, ABAQUS and self-compiled pre-/post- processing programs, some feasible method in performing complex analysis involving geometrical nonlinearity and material nonlinearity are mastered. At the same time, some empirical coefficients settings are suggested to obtain convergent results. Based on these studies, some typical type of suspend-domes is performed and compared with stability behavior of singer-layer spherical lattice shell, the stability behavior of suspend-dome has been known primarily, which the method can help the parameters analysis afterwards.In this paper, the stability behavior has been analyzed absolutely. the limit loads and buckling modes of suspen-domes are obtained, the effects of stability behavior are observed systematically by varying ratio of high and span, heights of strut, the prestresses of cables, the numbers of hoop cables, the load of dissymmetrical distributing and initial geometrical imperfection. The stability behavior of suspend-dome is mastered by a comprehensive numerical analysis.In addition, this paper mainly introduces the roof structural form of the main building of the gymnasium in the Olympic center of Yingkou——Suspen-Reticular shell and the optimizing design process of the structure. Systematical load-bearing analyses and the parameters analysis are carried out; the reasonable parameters of the roof structure are acquired, which can offer advice and reference for more designs and constructions of suspen-domes in future.
