The City Reader

As the only comprehensive museum of Xianyang, Xianyang museum is famous for its artifacts value of historical, scientific and artistic. However, as times progress, Xianyang museum's status scale, facilities and heritage preservation conditions have been unable to meet the requirements of heritage preservation and display, and the old musem of Xianyang is not the one which Xianyang should have. Xianyang museum needs of conversion or extension. This paper studied the importance of city reading in museum design through the reaches of city, history, and the development of museum. Try to figure out the relationships between the city reading and the Location, function, location, shape of museum. The new museum design of Xianyang is base on the information research and analysis about urban environment. And try to find the answers of room size of display, functions, site-selection, site plan, building shape of Xianyang museum. I hope my paper could provide an framework for Xianyang museum design and the new design concepts for the morden museum design from this case.
