This paper analyses the surface characteristic of a special integral impeller. On the base of the analysis result, CMM is used to gather the data of the impeller surface. In order to get effective data, this paper divides the blades from the hub of the integral impeller and respectively makes the different measure method. As the surface of the blades is confirmed to be the ruled surface, the continuate scanning mode is taken to measure the surface of the blades, including the long blades and the short blades, according to the generatrix of the blades.With CopyCAD software, the noise points are eliminated from the measured data. After the operating of division, fairing and triangularization, the surfaces groups of the blades are gotten. Then, the surfaces groups are imported into Pro/Engineer software. Joined with the data of hub surface, the whole surface group of the impeller is finished. By using the surface amendment function of Pro/Engineer, the 3d model of the impeller is formed.In order to check up the resonance vibration security and the intensity of the impeller, modal analysis and linear analysis are done. With the finite element analysis, the impeller is divided into tetrahedron grids. In the linear analysis, the real operating mode is imported for the analysis. The divided FEA grid module is directly used for the calculation of strength and natural vibration frequencies of the impeller. This procedure is very applicable for engineering.In order to program the reliable NC code, this paper discusses the movement equations of the 5-axis machine. As to post-processing file, the structure of PowerMill file of Mikron UCP600 Vario machine is analyzed in details. Afterward, this paper calculates the milling tool-path of the impeller and presents the prime NC program.
