The turbocharger is always present research hotspots as the important means to improve engine performance, however, the design of compressor impeller is difficult to develop. Compressor impeller is a high-speed rotating machinery, which working environment is very bad and endures the combined effect of centrifugal force and aerodynamic force, so blade fault occurs frequently. Moreover, with the continuous improvement of turbocharger compression ratio and rotating speed, not only impeller mechanical load is increased, but also longer life and lower costs are required. Therefore, the strength requirements of impeller is also getting higher and higher, which makes strength analysis become more important for the purpose of structural optimization. Using finite element software for the impeller strength analysis and optimal design has become an important part of the design process. How to pay attention to introducing advanced foreign technology, while strengthening the digestion and absorption and self-developed abilities, is the main issues that our country turbocharger industry faces. In this paper, taking a turbocharger compressor impeller for the research object, the impeller of reverse engineering and finite element analysis was studied and discussed. Using reverse engineering technology achieves three-dimensional reconstruction of the impeller sample, and using finite element software achieves strength analysis and structural optimization of the reconstruction of the impeller, to provide some references to the impeller design. In this paper, firstly, combination of reverse engineering software and CAD software achieves the reconstruction of three-dimensional CAD model of the impeller sample. Then, the models are simplified, and the simplified models are imported to the finite element analysis software for strength analysis to study the stress distribution characteristics of the impeller. Finally, based on strength analysis of the impeller, application of finite element software optimizes the structure of the impeller, and application of CAD software reconstructs the impeller model based on the optimized sizes.
