Lighting project of nightscape has been developed a lot these days, but there are much more unsolved problems arising from artificial lighting. The damage of lighting to paints and colored drawings is going to be our fundamental research. Especially the ultra-violet which is the main cause of material aging should be more concerned and studied. The purpose of this paper is to gain basic data by a serial of experiments and conclusions that can be useful constructing method in real project.First the paper cites some typical and representative paints and colored drawings of ancient architecture——the summer palace. Then it analyses the chemical components of paints and colored drawings and its average existing time. There are some studies about artificial lighting impacts on fading and aging. For further research we choose special lighting resource which emits ultra-violet only, measure and analyze the chromaticity and luster degree of the models. The paper also studied the temperature changing on the model surfaces under the metal halide lamp. In order to make the results more convincible and applicable, it has done a special research on the relationship between high-illuminance in a short time and low-illuminance in the long run. Finally the paper introduces some protecting measures that can be helpful for the protection of paints and colored drawings. The paper also poses some measures from the point of application of new lighting equipment and the improvement of the pigment of paints and colored drawings positively and passively.
