The Wei manor in Huimin county, which is the Chinese national cultural protection spot unit, lies in the hometown of Sun Zi on the North plain of Shandong province. The manor, where the north is the No.220 national road while the south is the Yellow River, is the mansion of the Wei family whose members are merchants, bureaucracies and landowners in the late Qing Dynasty. Well integrated with Chinese northern traditional construction and southern attic style, it forms a kind of special architecture form in dwelling house. Also, it combination the defence function with traditional enclosed courtyard. What's more, the combination of the walls built in the ancient weapon era and the forts used in modern wars makes it a manor with a rigorous military defence system. At present, it is the sole castellar civil architecture which is still in good condition in the north of Shandong Province.This paper was written on the base of the theory which were widely collected, inherit and abroad possess correlative information through actual investigation and interview, this paper made an general and systemic analysis of Wei manor for its space architectural system, architectural feature and cultural values. It is the first time to analyse the manor in the aspect of family history, and also combined it with the social and historical background. Through the analysis of the manor history, architectural feature and cultural values, this paper try to open out the Wei family's survival condition and social value tropism in late Qing dynasty and early before PRC, reflecting the social reality in the time and understanding the hundreds' years devious course of the manor. The paper also tried to find out the crossing points between local history and architectural culture history, and the dialectic relationship of interactions between social background and regional human environment.There are eighth parts in the paper: The first part is the abstract, concerning the general situation of the research on the manor internal and external, and expound the intention, method and signification of the research. The second part discuss the origin and migration of the Wei Family. The third part reveals the process of the manor's construction by looking into the epoch background and measures of the family's grow up. The fourth part focuses on the architecture features of the well-known manor, concerning its castellar protective characters and the uinfication of Chinese northern traditional construction and southern attic style. The fifth part is about the research in folk-custom history and culture, indicating that the manor is the epitome of the long history, the carrier of the folk-custom culture, the living fossil of the civil architectural culture and the embodiment of the Strategics culture. The sixth part regards its comparison with the Mu Family manor from the aspects of structure, defence system and cultural value, giving prominence to the architecture characteristic and culture valve through farther research. The seventh part discuss the protection and exploitation through the manor's actuality, history and culture, realizing the harmonious development of the cultural heritage protection and the exploitation. The last part is the summarize of paper.Through the research, the paper try to provide assist for the investigation of the conventional civil architecture, and offer beneficial references to the protection and supervision of the local cultural heritage and the tourism resource development.
