This dissertation aims to provide a method in order to understand the forms of contemporary architectures. Today it is a consumer society, and the architectures have become the consumer goods, and have the symbolic meanings of sign. According to the Semiotic Theory, the architectures are regarded as signs, which are full of meanings. Because the form of the architecture can express meanings, so the architecture stimulates the consumption. As a expressing sign, the architecture has been returned to the historical stage. This article discusses the economic source, the political source, and the aesthetic source of the architecture. Moreover, the article explains the characteristic and the reason of recent development of the architecture. Furthermore, according to the characteristic of the consumer society, the architectures can be devided into three types: spectacle type, theme type and mass type. In a addition, the article describes the characteristics of the form of the architectures and studies the means of the creation of the architecture.
