Aerial ropeway is an especial transportation form of a steel wire. The orbit of aerial ropeway is the steel wires that bear the weight of bodywork, goods, passenger in the air. The to- and- fro or whirligig draught of steal wire can bear the weight of the objects. As a mechanical transport installation, ropeway meets the needs of varied topography. Ropeway has been brought into play in traffic, metallurgy, coal, chemistry, building materials, water and electricity, forestry, agriculture, tourism etc. and be widely used all over the world. But, the safe condition of ropeway is not optimistic. This has to think the safety of ropeway deeply. According to the statistic, during the use of over one hundred ropeways built in our country in the last ten years many people have been killed. It is necessary to analyze the safety of the aerial ropeway carrying passengers in order to insure the safety of the ropeway and avoid the happening of accidents.As an important part of the aerial ropeway, the tower is crucial to the safety. So it is very important that the strength, rigidity and stability is exact or not. For past decades, structure designers resorted to the traditional way to analyze and compute the stress and displacement. The traditional structural design can only get the data of part stress and displacement. But the distribution of the stress and strain can't be described concretely when the load on the whole tower. With the developing of the tower, more complicated and more large-sized, new model structure of the tower is used. There is great difference between the result and the actual load if use traditional method. And it will take more time and more energy. Because of some hypothesis are adopted.With the rapid development of tourism, the needs for the aerial ropeways that carry people are growing day by day. The engineering and manufacturing departments are in great need of a new modern designing method. According to the status, the finite element method (FEM), which has been used in other industries widely, is used in the designing of the tower and the example in which the height of the middle tower structure is increased of Kong Dong mountain to-and-fro aerial ropeway that carries people is taken in this paper. The ANSYS software is the analysis tool. The model of a passenger aerial ropeway's supporting mast is established based on finite element method. The stress and strain of the supporting mast can be analyzed exactly, and an example is given to illustrate. Based on the result, the alteration of tower frame was viable. The designing of the structure of the super high aerial ropeway adopts the analysis based on finite element method. That can calculate the stress and strain of the tower structure completely and accurately. It also can be directly shown by illustrating and supply detailed and credible data for the designing and improvement of the tower structure. The rebuilding of the ropeway has been finished successfully by use of the result of analyzing and calculating of the item. Now the ropeway is being used normally. It is very important to analyze the structure of the super high and large steal structure by using the analysis based on finite element method in the designing and optimize of the practical project.
