The jib is one of the most important load-carrying parts of cranes and it is also the weakness of strength of the jib structure, its mechanical properties has a direct impact on the normal operation of the cranes which can result in higher failure rates and have great harmfulness. Therefore, the design of tower crane's jib is a very important issue. At present, the new calculation method is used extensively at home and abroad to design the jib of crane, such as finite element method-ANSYS software. However, the jib structure of the tower crane has complex structure and more loads. If you want to modify results, it is necessary to re-modeling. When the model is more complex or modified, it is very complicated and time-consuming. It is also easy to make the model is not accurate and cause incorrect results.Based on the actual engineering and requirements of the product design, the paper extracted characteristic parameters for the jib structure. Application of ANSYS' Parametric Design Language which is APDL has developed finite element analysis program common core of the jib structure of tower crane, have established the reasonable and right element model, load model and the constraint conditions, have completed parameterized finite element modeling, loading, analysising and post-processing of the automatic process, it mainly includes parametric finite element modeling, static analysis(including the analysis of strength, stiffness and stability), dynamicanalysis(including modal analysis and the transient analysis),and in accordance with the results of the analysis carried out strength checking, stiffness checking and stability checking of the jib.The total weight of the jib structure is optimization targets, to optimize the structural style and cross-section size of the structure which can available more economical and reasonable structure. Using Visual Basic language and the development of software interface, establishment the data tables by Access database tools and query the database and call data to calculation, the text will be in the form of statements of various parameters and the full results to be saved, realization call and encapsulation of the finite element analysis software ANSYS, to form the parameterization finite element analysis system.Through the engineering example verify the correctness of the system.
