Tour-bus named'Tour of Venice'is one of the tour-bus series developed by NAVECO. To realize parametric design of the series of tour-buses, research on type NJ6746SKF tour-bus is made by using the software of Pro/Engineer.This paper deals with advanced parametric design approach which realized in the process of modeling and virtual assembly of bus exterior. In particular, technical contributions are enumerated as follows:(1)The original data were analyzed and coordinated, and the design proposal was formulated.(2)The main parameters and subordinate parameters were confirmed in the process of parametrically modeling of the components. The free curves and surfaces were smoothed.(3)The components were assembled into the whole body model. Constrains, limits and relations of the dimensions had been applied to the model so as to make it a digital and intelligent one. Effective data and relations management was realized.(4)The parameter value input window was built through the secondary development tool Pro/Program.(5)The parametric model Carried on the certain testing in order to test the parametric model whether success.The advantage of CAD technology has been exerted sufficiently in parametric design. The realization of this parametric model lays a foundation for the sequential processes of FEM analysis, sensitivity analysis, structural optimization and the product data management, and consequently, it will improve efficiency and reliability for the body structural design and will promote serial production of passenger cars.
