Recently, finite element (FE) analysis of ship structures is necessary in the design of the large scale and new type ship. But, the main ship classification societies in the world all have their own direct calculation methods and criteria. So the International Association of Classification Society (IACS) developed common structural rules for bulk carriers and double oil tankers in advance to make the criteria uniform. The rules have taken into effect on April 1st 2006. The major purpose of this paper is to research on the yielding strength and buckling assessment according to the direct analysis of Common Structural Rules for Bulk Carriers (CSR). The main contents are as follows:1) Read and understand the fatigue analysis' basic theory.2) Research on the calculation methods of the criterion. According to the rules to determine the main structure's elementary size and the initial value of the three cabins-FE calculation model. Make sure the main longitudinal intension, extreme intension and the criterion of the longitudinal structure can all satisfy the demand.3) Make direct calculations on the bend and flection intension according to the common norm. Discuss the main content, main progress, FE-model's selection and establishment, boundary condition, calculation work condition, load application, solution procedure and the analysis of the result.4) United the board's stability theory to make deep research on the flection intension in the common criterion. Clarify the theory of the inflection check standard.5) According to the common norm, set a 17,7000DWT double bulk carrier as example, analysis its bend and flection intension. Adopted nominal stress method to evaluate the longitudinal structures, and thermal stress method to evaluate the transverse structures. And then read the stress through MSC/PATRAN, and calculated its fatigue life-span.6) Analysis the carrying capacity of the structures in common and several other kinds of work conditions through the comparison with the full-scale carrier. Pointed the problems in the common norm. Meanwhile, compared with the calculation results of the same bulk carrier in accord with CCS rules.
