The Post Occupancy Evaluation Research On Recreational Urban Public Space

With the rapid development of urbanlization in China, with the improvement of living standard, people who live in the big cities need more and more recreational urban pulic space such as urban park and recreational square. But former designs of recreational urban public space took too much emphasizes on aesthetics, while neglecting the requirements of users. Therefore many conflicts resulted in between the design and the use. Post Occupancy Evaluation is a kind of feedback study on design which is widely used in Europe and Amenrican countries. Post Occupancy Evaluation to the built environments make people take more attentions to the needs of users, and only the users satisfied design is the real successful design.Using the methods of POE, the dissertation choose four recreational urban public space in the city of Xi'an(North Square of Dayanta, South Square of Danyanta, West Park of Danyanta, East Park of Danyanta) as a case study, collect a large quantity of data by locale investigating, questionnaire and open interview. And then analyzed these data, draw accurate and objective results of evaluation, and pointed out the successes and shortcomings of the design.Finally,a comprehensive evaluation index system was established from the perspective of spporting users'activities, and a quantitative post occupancy evaluation method based on the questionnaire was also porposed. So the quantitative post occupancy evaluation on recreational urban public space gived by a large number of users is achieved, rather than individual expert's evaluation. This method was proved to be scientific and feasible.
