Along with the development of the city, the urban public space has been a more important space typology and the quality of the space should be improved urgently. In order to improve the quality at the root, this research uses the foreign theory of Post-occupancy Evaluation for reference. We want to evaluate the urban public space from the angle of the user and make the users participate in the evaluation in deed. Then we feed back the conclusion of the evaluation to practice projects, that makes the space meets the need of the user. After summarizing the domestic research of relative subject, the paper tries to establish an evaluation method of urban public space at the basis of the environment design theory. The paper adopts the theory deduction and demonstration researh synthetically. On theoretical side, we decide to evaluate the public space from two aspects -the form and the function at the basis of the relationship between people and environment .The research has preliminary deduced an evaluation method pattern which combines the subjective aspect and the objective aspect, the quantitative technologies and non- quantitative technologies.Under the method pattern, the paper illustrates main concrete evaluation technologies particularly. The most important part of the paper is trying to establish evaluation indicators conform to the evaluation content. The part includes the founding theory, founding process, indicator analysis and the core- weightiness analysis. On practical side, the appendix of the paper is a case of public space- Xu Jia Hui Park in Shanghai. This case applies the theory and the method which the research has pointed and proves the validity of them.
