With the development of the shipment in the world, China has raised the upsurge of harbor construction. The harbor construction, need a large number of dredgers badly. In addition, the sedimentation of rivers and lakes are very serious in our country. It has great adverse effect on the flood preventing and the shipping. It is imperative to use dredgers to dredge. Dredger is a kind of high science and technology ship, and spud is the major structural part and throwaway unit in the dredger. The design of spud is the key to design the dredger because of it is complexity on load. The original design of spud is too simple, so it is necessary to study and improve the method.In this paper, ascertained system external load; having analysed detailedly its force under three kinds of working conditions: dredging transversely, advance longitudinally and anchor mooring; And the forces on cutter head are also calculated. having found extremely large value that winch pulling force needs under every working condition , provided a basis for the follow-up design and analysis.In this paper, using the finite element method, fully considering the interaction between the spud and the soil, basing on the'm'method, creat the finite element model of the spud and soil which can reveal the force and the restrict on the spud. Use the element Combin 14 in Ansys to simulate the interaction between the spud and soil. Find the stress and displacement of each load case through calculating the example of the dredger. Analyse the relation between the stress distributing on the spud and the coefficient of the soil restriction and the dept of the spud that dip into the soil. The result fit the theory very well. The result of this paper provide a basic to the design of the spud.
