Cutter suction dredger is widely used in dredging industry. As a kind of engineering ships, its hull structure is markedly different with other normal types of ships. Therefore, it is essential to evaluate the hull structural strength to ensure its safety.The methods of structural strength analysis are presented by a 4000m3/h cutter suction dredger in this thesis. Analyse hull structure and equipments (bridge and spud) respectively.For hull structure, analyze structural strength of dredger by analyzing technique of 3-D entire ship FE model. First the hydro model, mass model and structural model are established. Then by a 3-D radiation-diffraction theory the long term prediction of wave includes wave and loading is performed, based on which a group of design waves are defined. The deformation and stress in each part of structure are calculated by entire ship FE model finally.Bridge and spud are main equipments on cutter suction dredger, and the most of external loads are beared by them. So research on each kind of loads carefully, and these two part structural strength are assessed. The analysis work are finished, based on which summarize the methods and discuss the standardization of strength evaluation of cutter suction dredger. Many factors are considered, and then the rules are constituted.The conclusion indicates that the method developed in this paper can be applied to design and optimization of the cutter suction dredger, and also can offer the reference to structural strength analysis work.
