The top of the high-rise building has critical significances of function, aesthetics and symbol, and also importance for unban as the upper section of city's surface and figuration. Nowadays, there exists problems of tops'ornamentalization, dull forms, unreasonable function, resources wasting, indistinct character and divorcing from unban in high-rise buildings'top design in our country. Solving the problems above relies on top's design complying with the principles of security, usefulness, economy, aesthetical, symbolization and unban design. This article deduces general principles of the top of the high-rise building design based on theories of psychology, typology, urban plan, scientific laws and technological standareds, and proves the principles with large amounts of real examples.The first chapter introduces the background, and formulates the significances and methods of this item;The second chapter define the target of the research and the basic qualities of it. The third chapter deduces the three prototypes, modern generic of the tops of high-rise buildings, analyzes tops'various characters and qualities, with the methods of neo-nationalism, all of which are made correspondent to different needs, and gets the conclusion that types are equal to forms'principles. The fourth chapter divides the principles of the high-rise buildings'top design according to needs on different levels and further formulates the concrete methods and norms of forrn design under different principles. The fifth chapter integrates the top of the high-rise building with urban and landscape in which to research the design principles of urban's axis, cognition, skyline, configuration, the landscape, and the lumination in night landscape. The sixth chapter anticipates the tendency of the development of the high-rise buildings'tops and provides the hypothesis of design principles correspondent to them. The conclusion points out that comprehending the relationship between the manners of form design and meeting specific needs has conducting effect to overcoming blind design and garranteeing forms designed reasonable.
