The plastic flow deformation particularly rutting is the most common disease on asphalt pavement of highway all around the world. 80% amount of the repair and maintenance work was caused by rutting,according to a international statistic, and the treatment of rutting has always been put the first place among the maintenance of asphalt pavement in foreign country. Just because the rutting not only influences comfort, it may endanger the traffic safety.Serious rutting has occurred in our country, although the development of the highway was just in recent 20 years. Increasing axle loads, truck tire pressure and traffic volume, channelizing traffic, widespread overload, unceasing rise of the seldom high temperature in summer, all these factors lead, to some extent, uncontroling wheel rut on our country's highway. In addition, the establishment and mutually link of the highways net sharpen this situation.In view of these emerging objective problems, this paper evaluate and compare the existing test methods, design basis and their indexes at first; meanwhile investigate and analysis the condition and the reason of several highways which in the different area of our country. The second chapter analysis all the factors'regulation affect the produce of wheel rut, include objective factors (climate, traffic transportation, road alignment etc.) and the subjective factors (raw material, patter and characteristic of the mix, structure of pavement, and the construct process.At present, the main approach treatment of wheel rut is cutting the failure surface course, and overlaid new oil mat. This paper combined with Jing-Hu expressway mid-repair project expounded this construct process detailly. The end section of this paper summarizes the full text to propose the preventative and repair measures to deal rutting on expressway, and introduced the micro-surfacing technology which has been proved as an ideal way to treat some slight wheel rut.
