The personal ability of substation operator is one of the most important factors that affect the security and reliability of electric power system. And that ability can be enhanced quickly by proper training.Simulation training is the leading way of training in all electric power system at present. After researching several kinds of simulation training systems for substations, we analyzed and summarized their advantages and disadvantages. And we innovated our own design basing on the result of research. At the same time, we took thinking in software engineering as the principle of design. We developed this platform for constructing universal simulation training system for substations step by step, including requirements analysis, feasibility analysis, architecture design, module design, coding, test, maintenance, and so on.Generality and reality, which are not satisfying in most of simulation training systems, are just the most important requirements in our platform.To realize the generality, we took database as the central part of software architecture and designed functional modules around it. Besides supplying the modules for editing information of equipment, relationship of operations and phenomenon of accidents, we also designed an initialization module, by which we can present the variety of voltage and current clearly on main wiring diagram and set the status of substations, consequently we can get various training conditions. Meanwhile, we made a brand new design on constituting operation rules and accident judgment basing on that initialization module, so that operation rules system became more expansible and easier to use.On the other hand, we introduced virtual reality technology to build simulation environment. We used 3DS MAX software to draw models of substation equipment, and constructed a vivid interactive three-dimensional virtual world with OpenGL. So the reality is greatly enhanced.
