In traditional way, we can obtain the function of reservoir operation by using regression analysis, from the course of reservoir operation which can be obtained by some optimization methods. This method was used for reservoir management functions into two separate process, and each process can achieve their desired results, but when the two calculations are combined, the overall result is not satisfying. Reservoir operation function can be obtained as one solution by Genetic Algorithm in accordance with its own characteristics, and the results can be better.This paper will calculate the function of reservoir operation by Genetic Algorithms.The main contents and results are:(1) Summarize Electricity and water sectors on the current developments. introduce Optimal operation in a comprehensive review of domestic and foreign development, analyze the characteristics of various theoretical methods. Made a detailed presentation on the genetic algorithm, including the coding algorithm, fitness function selection, Genetic operation,the choices of parameters and so on.(2) Establish optimal operation model on a certain runoff , tell the significance of the reservoir regulation function, introduce linear function of reservoir operation, and gives the general model for solution.Use the mathematical model derived Reservoir and linear regression analysis to get the range of the parameters combined with the actual situation.(3) Take Wudongde Reservoir as a example, achieve the solution of reservoir operation function by improved Genetic Algorithm. design some penalty functions for the many different design constraints, and add items to differentiate between fixed penalty punishment priority. together with the training, obviously genetic algorithm is accelerated on the convergence rate. Meanwhile. the POA algorithm is briefly introduced, and with the general solution to its scheduling function, another result comes. By comparison, the function of reservoir operation based on Genetic Algorithm is preferable obviously.
