Along with wind power system developing toward high-power, in order to reduce the problems on install and repair the Yaw Angle Planetary Gear Reducer, the weight becomes prominent increasingly. How to reduce the weight in the case of maintaining the strength of Reducer is one of the focused points. The study of optimal model of volume and methods of optimization are put on focus. The purpose of reducing the weight according to the optimization of volume has been achieved.Because of the structure of Reducer, the optimization method of sub step is used. That is, the transmission ratio are optimized at first, and then the parameters of the single stage are optimized. Based on the prior consideration, the progress of optimal design become easier.Firstly, the mathematic model of transmission ratio optimization is built. Its objective function is the overall volume of the Reducer. The optimization variable is the transmission ratio of every stage. The constraint conditions are the adjacent stages between the radial size restrictions and the transmission of gear pairs. Then the mathematic model of single stage's parameters is built. It's a multi-objective optimization. The objective functions are the contact ratio and volume. A function could be built to reflect the optimum effectiveness of the contact ratio and volume. The multiplication division method has been used to get the multi-objective to a single objective. Its optimization variable are the more important parameters: the number of teeth, modulus, face width, modification coefficient. The constraint conditions are the geometric constraints of planetary gears and the strength of the gear pairs.The optimal model has these properties: the non-linear objective function global optimization and discrete variables. So the genetic algorithms are used to optimize. It has good global optimization ability and does not have the complex mathematical derivation process, so the optimal result has been got in this way.Based on Visual C #. NET and Access database, the software is used to finish the optimal design of Reducer and check the strength of the cylindrical gear pairs. The software is used to optimize an example. The results of the ordinary design and optimal design are compared .The weight is reduced significantly and the contact ratio has been maintained well.
