Barrier-Free Interior Design For The Elderly

The aging of the population has become a serious social problem. With continuously improving of the living quality requirements of people, The barrier-free interior design are required urgently by entire society. The elderly are paid more attention by the society.The barrier-free design including the design of the environment, information and communication. Human Engineering is a new discipline system which integrate physical science, technology , environmental science .This paper basis on Human Engineering, focus on"the harmony of the human beings and environment".This paper studied the ageing trend of the population all through the world at present carefully.And analyzed the ageing trend of the population of China at present and the possible rapid growth conditions in the future .It also analyzed the physiological and psychological characteristics of the elders carefully, proposed the design principles and the size about the doors,windows, balconies and railings based on Human Engineering, When discussed the design principles in the living room, it put forward the minimum space which are needed when communicate and the furniture layout of the living room . It put forward the size and structure design principles of beds and cabinets for the elderly .And pointed out reasonable principles for dinning room, switches, sockets and curtains. The author also paid attention on design principles of the elderly-room environment and room color.In the bathroom design, This paper analyzed the lighting , illumination, the ground, faucets, washbasins , urinals and stools'installation location and design size of the security handrails around the bathroom walls .And put forward the construction and safety design requirements of the tub after analyzed the process of the elderly when they using the tub.The paper also put forward reasonable kitchen console's layout design, the console's height, width, the area, the size that the cupboard should be installed, It also analyzed the design of the water tap,stove,ventilation,exaust,lighting,electrical design,color design of the kitchen carefully. And analyzed the design principles of tables, chairs . Finally ,it study the living patterns of the elderly, analyzed the living conditions of older persons and related issues. And studied the new model of"two generations of the Habitat","old age apartment"and the room layout programme of the elderly .
