Energy is one of the key factors that dominate the process of sustainable development. On the one hand, energy is indispensable to the betterment of human life and to the promotion of economic development; on the other hand, it may also bring on some health and environment problems, such as air pollution and global warming. In this regard, the heat pump technology will provide us with a powerful means for the development of renewable energy, and meet the requirements for energy saving and ecological environment protection. This paper makes a comprehensive and in-depth study of the water-source heat pump system, a study that is financed and supported by relevant research funds and projects.By using the reverse Carnot cycle theory, the author of this paper has worked out a mathematical expression indicating that the heat output of the heat pump is greater than the consumed power; by making an economic analysis of water-source heat pump, has established economic indicators concerning the operation of and investment in heat pumps.The author of the paper has also made a theoretical analysis and numeric calculation of the characteristics of the pump's compressors, evaporators, and other parts; established a mathematical model of the compressor through derivation of the formula of the turbine compressor; has carried out design calculation of the flooded evaporator by comparing the performance of both the flooded type and dry type evaporators and by analyzing their heat transfer process.As regards the on-going project, the author of this paper has developed an intelligent control technology for the water-source heat pump, devised an optimized electrical control system, which will enable the whole system to run stably and efficiently. The intelligent control technology used in the research and development of air-conditioning unit controllers will help build a networked, integrated, and intelligent management in the future.The on-going project is to apply the water-source heat pump system in question in actual projects, and, based on the western high and mountainous conditions, to devise a four-shunt-wound turbine compressor pump with a total output power of 440KW. The author has participated in design of both the room and water source heat pump system; recorded the data of operation of the water-source heat pump units. On the basis of data analysis, the author has worked out a curve showing that the unit's main parameters change with time; supervised the operation of the heat pump unit, which, having been running in a good condition on the end of its users, has helped them obtain good economic profits.At the same time, the author of this paper has made an analysis of problems existing in the process of building a green campus in higher education institutions, in one of which the author is working. And, based on surveys of energy consumption in construction, the author has come up with a technical solution to building green campuses in universities in the hope that it will play an active role in promoting energy-saving construction at universities.
