Geomagnetic storm can produce Geomagnectically Induced Current(GIC) in power network.GIC has important effect on power network,so it has practical significance to research the size and the effect of GIC in power network.This paper fist explains the fundamental of GIC and introduces the algorithms of calculation ESP including plane wave, improved plane wave,and complex image,after that provides the calculation model of power network GIC,and finally designs and implements the power network GIC evaluation software. In the end,this paper uses the parameters of JiangSu province 500kV power network in 2006 and the implemented software to calculate the GIC in JiangSu province power network,and compares the result with the size of GIC measured by electrical devices.The compared result proves the correctness of software.Therefore,this software can be used to research the GIC problem in power network and can become the tool which applies to the work of power network operation and planning.
