Car steering linkage is an important part in the car steering system. It affects stability of driver's manipulation, the safety of movement and even affects the life of tyre directly. The linkage is subject to compression and tension periodically when it works. Once failed, it may cause severe consequences .For example , the car can't steer sensitively or in time, and ,sometimes, the car may even lose the function to steer . So, it requires to improve the steering linkages' property in case something unexpected occurs. The car steering linkage is comprised of tie rod end assembly, nut, linkage assembly, right and left elastic tube and spring. After detecting the defective linkage, we found the main reason contributing to its failure is the badly worn of the ball cup. So, In order to improve the character of car steering linkage, it is very important to improve the ball cup's property. We could realize this aim by improving process technology or using new material to replace the old one. When the measures referred above has been adopted, we should carry out the fatigue test for the new assembly and evaluate whether the new plan is practical. The experiment could be carried out the test on the mini-car's environment, but it will take a long test period .Besides, it will also cause the damages for the whole car. So it is not practical. In order to overcoming the shortcoming referred above, we need to provide a environment to determine the property of the new plans. To design a test bench that could simulate the actual force and motion state is our practical need.Therefore we design the test bench. In this paper, centering about the aspects of test bench's design and research, it mainly discusses the following content.(1) The defective mechanism of the steering linkage. In this part, it mainly describes the parts that consists of the steering linkage and environment which includes motion and force conditions. We also analyze the parts that is prone to fail and the reason that cause the particular phenomenon.(2) The design process of the test bench used for car's steering linkage. The design must satisfy the following requirements. First, it should have the ability to simulate the linkage's practical state, especially the ball stud and the ball cup's relative motion and force's practical situation. Secondly, it should determine the failure point and record the total number of motion. Thirdly, design should be in accordance with the test-bed experimental criteria of the steering linkage assembly contained in the auto industry's standard of the People's Republic of China. Its code is QC/T 304-1999 which was used to replace ZB T23 006-87. According to the requirement we could draw its assembly drawing and detail drawing.(3) The modeling and analysis for the test bench's virtual prototype . Based on the design idea referred above, we could build the 3-D model utilizing the software of Pro/E combining ADAMS to build the virtual prototype. In the environment of the virtual prototype, we can carry out kinetic and dynamic simulation. Using the date from the virtual prototype, it is convenient to determine the feasibility of the design and required motive force.
