With speeding up of the urbanization process and the rapid development of economic integration ,many region cities gradually transformes into the metropolitan city in the world. In our cuontry, Yangtze River Delta, zhujiang River Delta, Beijing-Tianjin-Tangshan of the three major metropolitan areas have also been marked that the tendency of the development urbanization and many cities becoming to a metropolitan area in China.Due to its own particular characteristic, As a infrastructure in the regional economic and social development ,traffic plays an important role in the development of the metropolitan area.Along with the development of the metropolitan area, the metropolitan-wide transport system also faces many challenges and changings, To make well the traffic planning and construction for the whole transport system is a particular work.As a part of the metropolitan traffic forecasting, the mode split of passenger transportation plays an important role in pre-forecast for traffic planning and construction in the whole of transportation system.Firstly, the paper discusses the concept of metropolitan area and its transportation,to make clear their differences between the original city-wide and metropolitan area; introduces a variety of modes split of passenger transportation , assessments their advantages and weaknesses, the basic knowledge of the disaggregate model was introducd initially; secondly,it focus on the adaptability of disaggregate model in passenger transportation mode split in the metropolitan, analysis the characteristics of residents travelling and the things which impact of travel and travel behavior of their own choice in the metropolitan area, reasches the adaptability of disaggregate model in the metropolitan transportation with the metropolitan traffic trendences; A pioneering attempt has been made in the "One-Hour Economic Circle" of Chongqing by its Municipal Government recently, trying to apply the disaggregate model in the passenger flow prognosis. It is expected that this experiment will not only establish a ground for the planning and development of public transportation system, based on the accurate prediction of the traffic volume share rate, but also provide some food for thought for future research of the disaggregate theory.
