Chinese ancient wooden buildings are important in Chinese traditional culture, and to some degree they represent the development level of science and technology in ancient China.How to protect the cherished relic from being destroyed by earthquakes is a great challenge to us.A kind of extremely unique built-up appears during the timber structure system developing process.Its name is Dou Gong.Through the low cyclic loading experiment of single Dougong,two Dougongs and four Dougongs,the degrading rule of lateral stiffness of Dougong have been studied.Through the test results,the primary role of Dougong is to bear the slip deformation which can consume energy and insulate vibration.And all this shows that the ancient wooden structures has a good seismic performance.The shapes of the hysteresis curve displays parallelogram and the area is plump which prove that Dougong has a excellent energy dissipationg performacen. The mechanic model of Dougong belongs to linear elastic-plastic model and the resilience model of Dougong can reflects the characteristics of resilience and stiffness chang.Base on these research,the complete analysis of ancient timber structure under earthquake are carried out in which including mechanism analysis method,calculating mode,strength analysis of members and joints,strengthening methods for serving damaged ancient timber structure buildings are also taken into account.These studies will take important part in intending structure inspection,seismic appraiser;seismic strengthening of historic timber structure buildings,and will provide very useful suggestions to modem building construction.
