The behavior to improve indoor thermal environment by using solar energy has been carried out in many areas in domestic, however, it's really infrequent about residential buildings. Owing to the problem of low level of standardized design of residential building equipment, the National "11th Five-Year Plan" Science and Technology key projects has carried out the research and software development to workout technical standards and raise the standard of design. This paper exactly is an important component of the subject. This article concentrates on the analysis of solar heating system (includes the types and characteristics of solar collectors, the type of operation of solar system and the automatic control technology) on a basis of the research of the application of solar technology at home and abroad. Then the author choose Tao Liping new countryside as demonstratated point to analyze the technical and economic characteristics of solar thermal system after overall evaluation about weather, location, dwelling configuration, standard of living and enthusiasm. Then this paper analyzes the technical and economic characteristics of 7 forms in Xi'an, Beijing and Lhasa using the dynamic annual cost method:(1) Solar hot water system;(2) Solar heating and hot water union system of traditional residential buildings (heat all the houses);(3) Solar heating and hot water union system of traditional residential buildings (heat two bedrooms);(4) Solar heating and hot water union system of traditional residential buildings (heat one bedroom); (5) Solar union system of energy conservation building (i.e. amounting to the energy-saving rate of 65% in Xi'an) (heat all the houses);(6) Solar union system of energy conservation building (heat two bedrooms);(7) Solar union system of energy conservation building (heat one bedroom). The result indicates that it should pay particular attention to the matching of economic performance and technical performance when using solar thermal system in Xi'an. 6 scenarios have the same optimal collector area that is 3 m~2 based on the assumption in this paper, it dosen't recommend tobe used because it's solar heating rare is 0%. However, the solar water system whose annual cost is 0.49 times of electric water heater, 0.46 times of gas water heater and solar fraction reaches up to 92.04% under the same conditions, has remarkable economical, environment and social efficiency. In addition, the solar fraction and annual cost of solar systems under different insulation are compared. The result indicates that the technical performance promotes largely after insulation (scenario 5 has an energy saving of 60.96% than scenario 2, scenario 6 47.5% than scenario 3, scenario 7 37.59% than scenario 4); and the thermal performance becomes better too (the solar fraction of scenario 5 raises 13.97% than scenario 2, scenario 6 raises 13.51% than scenario 3, scenario 7 raises 14.34% than scenario 4). So the best methord is to use solar system and energy-saving building simultaneously, but the insulation thickness can not be increased unlimitly, 50 mm is enough to provide adequate protection against excessive heat losses and reach superior technical and economic performance in this case.
