An Initial Research For Landscape Design Of Urban River And Waterfront

The landscape design of urban river and waterfront plays an important role in city development and improvement.The concept of urban river and waterfront is presented and developed more than hundred years.However,the full research and analysis of this concept do not attract the relative institutes and departments in China until 1990's.The research of urban river and waterfront will enable people to learn more about the impact of the river and waterfront in city development,to understand and participate in the urban river and waterfront design and construction.Therefore,to investigate the developmental history of the river and waterfront,to point out the problems,drawbacks or mistakes in the landscape design of urban river and waterfront,and finally propose proper solutions have important academic significance and practical value.With a fully investigation,the relations between urban river waterfront and city development are divided into three aspect by using time,space and functionality base,respectively.By analyzing a large number of domestic and international examples,the paper further improve the urban river waterfront into the concept of landscape design,and conclude the shortcomings and problems still exsited in urban river and waterfront design and city development.Beijing(Typical artificial river urban) and Suzhou (Typical natural river urban) drainage systems are presented as two typical domestic city water systems in this dissertation.The histories,different geographical environment and local culture are indicatedin the paper in order to analyze the problems and shortcomings existed in these two typical drainage systems.The evaluation of these solutions are presented at the last of the dissertation.The main research works and results of this study are as follows:Presents a new concept,and separate the landscape design of urban river and waterfront into active and passive function based on the existing division method.Lists and investigates examples to explain and improve this new concept.By analysis the theories and practical systems existed in domestic and foreigh countries,concludes the main problems and shortcomings in landscape design of urban river and waterfront.Taking Beijing and Jiangsu two domestic cities as the examples of typical urban river and waterfront design,by analysis the histories of water formation and the the development of drainage systems,makes the problems and shortcomings materialization.Proposes proper solutions targeted on further improve the overall optimization program,and the program results are evaluated at the last of dissertation.
