According to the policy of wall reform in our country, autoclaved fly ash bricks are widely used in building structures in the country. But the seismic performance of the masonry walls isn't researched systemically, and this makes a new project design and assessment of existing building structures lack of basis. In order to guide and promote the applications of autoclaved fly ash brick, the Chinese Association for Construction Standardization gave a task to compile "Technical specification for autoclaved fly ash brick masonry structure ". In accordance with the request of the Chinese Association for Construction Standardization masonry Committee and the "Technical specification for autoclaved fly ash brick masonry structure" group, the several scientific research institutions had researched into autoclaved fly ash brick masonry to provide the basis for the establishment of the technical specification The contents of this paper belong to part of the technology's scientific research.The main contents of this paper include:(1) The experimental study for the behavior of autoclaved fly ash brick columns are conducted. Measuring the crack and failure loads of the specimens, drawing load -lateral displacement curve and stress distribution in cross-section at different loads, analyzing the experiment results and comparing with the result of the existing specification showed that calculating the bearing capacity of autoclaved fly ash brick columns by the existing specification is quite secure and reliable.(2) The experimental study for the seismic performance of autoclaved fly ash brick masonry walls are conducted. The seismic performance of 12 pieces of autoclaved fly ash brick and 2 pieces of ordinary brick masonry walls are studied. The hysteresis curve, skeleton curve, deformation energy, energy dissipation, the equivalent viscous damping ratio and rigidity degradation are analyzed. The shear capacity formula of autoclaved fly ash brick masonry walls is built by the current theories, and the calculation results of the proposed formula in good agreement with the experimental results, so it is recommended as a formula used for seismic design of autoclaved fly ash brick masonry walls.
