The research of tokamak is very important to develop the fusion power. In order toobtainbigplasma current andhighperformanceparameters, theHL-2AdeviceshouldbeupdatedtoHL-2M.The most important engineering problem for the update of HL-2M is the plasmaposition and shape control. The plasma with vertically elongated poloidal section isunstable. To avoid the plasma escaping and breaking, the vertical instability must becontrolled firstly. And it's also necessary to control the plasma shape to get advancedshape. This paper describes the design of the passive plates and the active control coilsfor the plasma vertical instability control of HL-2M.The parameters for the plasmaresponse model are calculated. The PID and adaptive control systems are designed andsimulated, the latter one is able to control the plasma from the maximal displacement5cmtothemiddleplane,whichprovethatthedesignofthepassiveplatesandtheactivecoils is rational. The adaptive controller is also supposed to control the verticalmovement in the experiments of HL-2A. This work adopts an appropriate plasmaresponse model (RZIP), the PID and H ?robust controllers for the HL-2M shapecontrol. The decoupling PID control system is designed and simulated. The work aboutprogramming the input documents for the shape control code, calculating the plasmashape response model and designing the shape controller is valuable for the furtherresearch of HL-2M shape control. At the last of the paper, the main idea is summarizedandsomesuggestionispresent.Theworkinthis paperismeaningfulfortheresearchoftheplasmacontroltheoryandthedesignofthecontrolsystemforHL-2M.
