Energy shortage and environment pollution are two serious problems that can prevent the world from sustainable development. Vehicles run at a low speed and stop frequently due to crowd public transportation in the city. So pollution made by vehicles is serious. Among these vehicles, the emission and the fuel economy of conventional city bus are really bad. As a result, to develop Hybrid Electric City Bus which can solve these problems is urgent. In this paper, development of HEV technology and EV simulation technology is discussed firstly. Then based on the hybrid electric city bus, the paper has made some research about matching and optimizing of power system parameters, multi-energy management and regenerated brake unit of the series hybrid electric bus.(1) Based on the analyse of the hybrid drivetrain systems with different structures and the driving rules of the city bus, the series type of hybrid drivetrain is selected as the model because it is especially adapted to the city bus running condition. The related parameters of hybrid electric driveline were designed, and the method of modeling issues of the drivetrain components were put forward. On the basis of the characteristics of power train of rear-axle drive, a dynamic model of rear-axle drive was set up and simulated on MATLAB / Simulink/ ADVISOR modeling.(2) Parameter optimization of power system of series hybrid electric bus is presented in this thesis. The design is based on the method of orthogonal experiment. Based on the review and optimization to the matching of various factors by orthogonal experiment, the orthogonal experiment design method and the influence of various factors on the fuel economy are analyzed. Finally, the results are validated by simulation. And the results of simulation indicate that the series hybrid electric bus has the same dynamic performances, while fuel consumption of China representative city bus driving cycle is decreased by 4.1%.(3) The control strategy of regeneration and effect of regeneration is mainly discussed in this part, a new regenerative brake model was set up and simulated on the Stateflow. It was indicated from results that the regenerative energy has great impact on the fuel economy of the bus, especially for the city bus.(4) The dynamic performance and fuel economy for Ankai hybrid electric bus was tested. The results show that the bus can meet the dynamic and fuel economy requirements. The test can also provide a method for the improvement of the design and the industrialization of this bus.
