With the rapid development of power electronics technology and the increasing application in many industrial fields, the impactive loads, such as AC arc furnace, rolling mill, electric locomotive and the semiconductor convertor assembly are greatly increasing. Then the power quality and the users'normal working are affected. Static Var Compensator (SVC) has the characteristics of fast response speed and cost-effective, so it is great important to improve the voltage instability and the bad power quality. The thesis is mainly to develop SVC. The design method of the software and hardware of SVC controller is introduced. Test and analysis are made on the performance of SVC controller prototype. The thesis introduces the constitution, parameters computation, trigger mode, online monitoring, protection methods and cooling device of the thyristor valve assembly. The schematic diagram and detailed explain of Thyristor Electronics and Valve Base Electronics are present. According to Engineering Practice, the thesis has designed the SVC used in AC arc furnace, designed the filter's parameters of the SVC, analyzed and summarized the experiment results in detail, validated the design rationality through comparing the digital simulation and test results.
