Study On Architectural Protectual And Renewal Of The Historic Area In Suzhou

There is no doubt that climate has a profound influence to the form of architecture, as Ralph Erskine, the English architect, said,'Without climatic problem, human beings will not need building.'Charles Correa had a passage of issue that'in further level, the condition of the climate determines culture and the expression, the convention and the comity of that. To the meaning of fountainhead, climate is the origin of myth. Therefore, in the culture of India and Mexico, the metaphysics property of the open space comes along with the hot weather they depend on.'That architecture adapt to the weather is a eternal principle. As a carrier of human beings'civilization, architecture followed the regional architecture culture developed form several thousand years'exploration by human being to fit the natural environment. Designing comtemporary building with modern technology and the merit of traditional local houses not only advances the continuable development of local architecture, but also is the tendency of the future comtemporary building. The conditions of nature have a great influence and restrict to the form of traditional architecture. Among them, climate is the determined factor to the architecture's veriety. Local architecture has a close relationship with climate, which must fit the local climate and provid people a more convenient and comfortable active space. This article is based on above theory and chooses some traditional villages and aeras with rich resources of local houses as research object like Hupu Mountain in Xuzhou, Yaowan ancient town, both in north Jiangsu. Focused on representative exemple, the form and the low technology of the modity of the traditional residential building are analysed with the typologic way. Based on the design of modern residential houses formed by the climate in northern Jiangsu, I put forward the design strategy about how to fit the local weather when designing local building.
