Steel structure is widely used in high-rise buildings for its favorable seismic performance and mechanical behaviors. According to the known references, researches on steel structure mainly focus on the structure members and integral performance, but there are few research on the connection joint of members and the column base between the structure and the foundation.Column base is the very important joint between the steel structure and the concrete foundation. It is the main factors in determining the carrying capacity and plays an important part in the structure. The embedded steel column base is suitable for the modern high-rise structure buildings due to bearing the heavy force. The embedded steel column base is setting the steel column into the concrete foundation and delivering the internal force, and it is also good for the seismic prevention. To study the aseismatic performance of embedded steel column base, four embedded steel column with the different embedded depth and the layout of the stud are tested under low-cycle reversed loading. By analyzing the failure patterns, hysteretic loop, the moment- curvature curve and the rigidity degeneration, the effects of the embedded depth and the layout of the stud on the aseismatic performance of embedded steel column base was discussed. The results of experiment show that an adequate embedded depth is needed for the embedded steel column base to work and the layout of stud can decrease the rigidity degeneration.Nonlinear finite element analysis of the test specimens are carried out using the ABAQUS software. The whole Process in FEM analysis, including choosing material model, creating geometry model, meshing the model, applying loads and computing are introduced. The analysis results are compliance with the test results.Twenty-two different settled embedded steel column base was established. Its seismic performance, such as failure modes, hysteretic characteristics, energy dissipation capacity, and rigidity degeneration displacement ductility are careful analyzed. The role of the bottom plate, the anchor bolt and the Stiffener in the embedded steel column base is discussed.
