Passenger transportation is an important component of the traffic system. The purpose of passenger transportation is to offer the essential condition of going out for the fact that people carry on social activities such as politics, economy, culture, etc. and life. The development of passenger transportation marks the economic strength of a country and the rich intensity of people's life. The more developed the economy is, the greater the passenger transportation demand is. The passenger transportation demand stems from the social economic activity. The interaction among social economic activity scattered on the different space and the interaction between the resources and workforces produces the passenger transportation demand. The passenger transportation demand is a need of space displacement that is produced in a fixed period of time. This definition determines that studying passenger transport demand is need to research and analyze the characteristics in time and space.The western region of our country is vast in territory, and the resources are abundant. The changing of the national economic development centre to the west and the implementation of the develop-the-west strategy play a very big role for the development of the western regional economy. The development of the western regional economy attracts more fund and technology. With the constant development of the commodity economy in the western region and the constant improvement of the living standards of the people, the flow of passengers will inevitable strengthen, meanwhile, the comprehensive transportation network of the western region is being improved constantly and offering certain convenience for the increase of passenger traffic demand. But the special geographical position of the western region has determined the particularity of the comprehensive transport network of the western region. So it is very important to study the distribution of passenger transportation demand in the west accord with the transport network. Researching on the distribution of passenger transportation demand not only offers the basis on the construction of the comprehensive transport network in the western region but also offers the basis for rational development of the passenger traffic demand.This thesis carries on systematic analysis and research on the characteristic of time and space, and the distribution rule in time and space to the western region at first; Second, This thesis analyzes the space transport connection combined with the road network; At last, This thesis predicts the volume of passenger transportation of the western region, and puts forward the predicted model about the share of passenger transportation modes. Studying distribution rule in time is carried from two respects: annual distribution rule and seasonal distribution rule. In the research, this thesis carries on comparative analysis between western region and the whole country, and between every province of the western region, at the same time, this thesis carries on exhaustive analysis to five kinds of traffic ways separately. Distribution rule in space is quantitative analysis mainly from distribution rate, distribute than region non-balanced coefficient, position trader; Then this thesis carries research on the leading to space pattern of the western region combined with the anglicizing about the road network .At last, this thesis carries on the prediction of the passenger traffic demand, and draws several conclusions, planning to be offered the theoretical foundation the rational comprehensive transport network for the western region. I hope the researches can arrive certain directive significance not only to the passenger transportation demand but also to the plan and development about comprehensive transport network in western region.
