With the uninterrupted development of residential industry in our country, more and more tall building of steel frame structures have been applied. The conventional analysis and design of steel frame are performed using the assumption that connections are either fully rigid or ideally pinned. These idealized assumptions simplify the analysis and design of steel frame consumedly, but they could not reflect the actual work conditions of structures. In addition , in the Code for design of steel structures (GB50017-2003),the semi-rigid connections are referred to, but are not specified how to use it in design. Semi-rigid connection effects not only internal the force and displacement, but also the stability and dynamic characteristics of structure, According to these problems, some suggestions are proposed in present study, but they are not comprehensive when it comes to how to take consideration of the effect of semi- rigid connection on structure performance during the process of structural design. Aimed at the point, the characteristics of a typical semi-rigid connection~joint-top and seat angle with double web angles semi-rigid connection are discussed and studied.The present findings of semi-rigid connections, the method for design of beam-to-column connections in the codes from China and other countries, and the character about semi-rigid connections, were briefly introduced in this paper. The simulated method of the M-θrelation curve of semi-rigid connections, the computing equations about the initial stiffness and moment capacities of joint-top and seat angle with double web angles semi-rigid connection, were discussed. Thereafter, by using the nonlinear finite element method Program ANSYS, joint-top and seat angle with double web angles semi-rigid connection are analyzed, and contrastive analyses are carried out with testing results. In the end, some suggestions are made to improve the character of joint-top and seat angle with double web angles semi-rigid connection. The improved models are also analyzed. Finally some conclusion and corresponding design suggestions are put forward.
