| Many reinforced concrete box-shape arch bridges had been built in our country since the eighties of last century. Due to the limitation of cognition at that time, the bridges' design, construction and materials may have some defects, which lead to the bridges structure demerits. Especially the bridges have been heavy loaded and used under heavy traffic for a long time. Today, most of them have appeared a series of diseases, which has seriously affected the bridges' safety and easy to have accidents. How to deal with these diseases is one of the most concerned problems by traffic control department. So it has great practical significance to do the research on reinforced concrete box-shape arch bridges diseases and strengthening technique. The following points are studied in this paper:1. This thesis is based on the extensive investigation and collection data, which stem from many reinforced concrete box-shape arch bridges' disease. According to the structure characteristics of the reinforced concrete box-shape arch bridges, the common diseases had been systematically summarized from the aspects of arch, superstructure,skewback and abutment, bridge decking, suspender and tier.2. Bridge diseases might be caused by much different factors. This thesis analysed the disease cause from the design, construction and operation and management. And some advice was given to the bridges' design, construction and management for the future use.3. The common maintenance and strengthening methods for different diseases are summarized. It can provide a reference for future bridges' maintenance and strengthening.4. By taking a case of Neijiang-Tuojiang bridge of Chengdu-Chongqing highway, bridge's diseases were detected and analysed. The maintenance and strengthening methods were also introduced.
