Pavement Preventive Maintenance (PPM) is defined as the planned strategy of cost-effective treatments to an existing roadway system and its appurtenances that preserves the system, retards future deterioration, and maintains or improves the functional condition of the system without substantially increasing structural capacity. The critical problem for preventive maintenance is how to confirm the maintenance time. This paper systematically summarized the methods to confirm the maintenance time and suggested to use the cost-effect method to confirm the time and then confirmed the preventive maintenance cycle based on life cycle cost analysis. Finally, based on the case of Jinan-Liaocheng Expressway asphalt pavement, the proposed method to confirm the optimum preventive maintenance time and maintenance cycle was proved advanced and reasonable. So the conclusions are valuable in theory and helpful to preventive maintenance engineering. |
