With energetical promotion of urbanization process and comprehensive construction of well-off society in China, urban bridges have been developed on a large scale, not only in span length but also in structure types and quantities. It becomes urgent that how to maintain and manage these bridges effectively.In China, the government paied more attention to constructing new bridges rather than to the maintenance of old bridges for variety of reasons. Moreover, there are a lot problems in the management and maintenance, especially in the obsolete management model and management tools, bridge data collection, analysis and management method. As a result, it lead to adequate understanding of the overall situation of the bridges. The bridge technical file is missing partly because of history reason also make trouble for decision-maker. In addition, the bridges cannot be afforded the daily investigation and maintenance because of the shortage of the funds, low quality of the staff and so on. Consequently, some bridges are even in a state of disrepair. The deterioration of these bridges reduced the load carrying capacity and affecting the normal serviceability of the bridge. The traditionally manual data management, assessment and decision-making will be awful and disqualified. As a result, management system based on computer software for assessment, management and decision-making for bridges has become tendency because of the fast developing of computer hardware and software.This paper introduces the development of an urban bridge management system based on web. We believe that the system can save much effort and resource to manage bridge information more effectively, and also be much helpful for bridge decision-maker.
