Generally speaking, marine diesel engine can be operated and controlled at Local, ECR and Bridge Room. If the operator in ECR and Bridge Room, he can't use the control mechanism to operate the marine diesel engine at local, so we need a control system to operate the marine diesel engine which is named main engine remote control system. It allows the main engine to start, reverse, stop and regulate the speed automatically. It can also limit the speed and load and provide safety function. Main engine remote control system can not only improve chief engineers'working condition and handling quality, but also improve ship's running security and engine's reliability and economy. Because of this, main engine remote control system plays an important part in unattended engine room.The main engine remote control system can be divided into pneumatic type, electric type, electricity-gas type, electricity-liquid type and microcomputer control type according to different equipments and implementation. The main engine remote control system controlled by microcomputer is mainly composed of PLC or microcomputer interface circuit and its composition, only the drive mechanism uses pneumatic or electric component. The function of remote control system is mainly carried out by software application which is flexible and powerful, applicable and reliable. In recent years almost all the new ships are controlled by computer and developed towards distributed and network-oriented. So in this thesis, I design a set of Siemens S7-300 PLC program to control the ship engine. It realizes operation place conversion, starting, speed control, safety protection function of the main engine remote control system. I also design and select PLC hardware in this thesis.The core of this thesis is to design Siemens S7-300 program, using LAD of STEP 7 programming language to design PLC program which concludes starting requirement, starting, conversion, given speed closed-loop control algorithm and speed control, etc. By optimize program and keep debugging, this set of PLC program realize some function of the main engine remote control system such as starting, speed control, safety protection, operation place transformation, however it still need to be improved.
