| The brick carvings in Suzhou and Wuyuan started very early, while their development of prosperity concentrated in the period from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China, during this period, the brick carvings of both places were mostly full and accurate, careful and neat, so that they were provided with highly artistic value. Therefore, the two brick carvings of the period from the Ming and Qing Dynasties to the Republic of China are mainly in the scope of this article.The brick carving in Suzhou is the typical representative in Jiangsu area of China, and has formed its own style of fine and elegant decoration after its maturity of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The brick carving in Wuyuan plays a special role in the brick carving of Hui-style, the Huizhou merchants sprang up during the periond of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, which made the brick carving in Wuyuan to reach its peak relying on the Hui-style Architecture. With a view to the differences of development, artistic features, subjects and content, patterns, workmanship and so on between the Suzhou's brick carving and the Wuyuan's one, the article summarized the knowledge of similarities and differences of both in the historical development. Through the analyisis of the typical works and the similarities and differences in the shape and artistic features of the two brick carvings, the writer interpreted the various reasons for the similarities and differences, conducting a more detailed discussion of the comparison. Moreover, through a comparative analysis of the similarities and differences in the historical development of both brick carvings, and of their causes, the writer found the bonds that they learn from each other and act on each other, probing into the character of the two regional culture with the material and artistic view, and trying to explore the ways and means for inheritance and protection of cultural heritage in the theoretical level. |
