Higher requirements have been put forward on functions of Rolling stock due to rapid development of Chinese railway industry, to improve safety and productivity of locomotive, General Planning for Railway Information had been enacted by Ministry of Railway in 2005, Overall Program of Locomotive Information had also been issued at the same time, which proposed general description and essential norm to solve above problems. On the framework of locomotive special rules, monitoring and diagnostics system is used to monitor and diagnose remotely based on network. The design of platform provides scientific information technology for safety operation and maintenance management of locomotive.After fully taking into account the current monitor and diagnostic system hardware and software characteristics and performance requirements, the thesis finished the design of the main controller of monitor and diagnostic system. PXA270 in XScale architecture used as a main controller chip has been greatly reduced system power consumption; PXA270 owns rich on-chip resources which integrate rich peripheral interfaces, so development difficulty is decreased largely. Using embedded Linux operating system allows the system to have good real-time characteristics. The whole system has complete independent intellectual property rights and effectively reduces the cost of the system.In the thesis, the author has accomplished the following work:(1) Hardware design of the main controller module. According to the function of the system required to complete system main controller hardware framework design based on Intel XScale processor, such as device selection, circuit schematic design, PCB board layout design.(2) Transplantation of embedded Linux operating system based on PXA270 main controller. The thesis finished design of Bootloader and transplantation of Kernel and File system based on hardware character of main controller.(3) The design of Linux device drivers. The design of CAN interface driver based on MCP2515 and network interface driver based on LAN91C111 have been finished.(4) Application program design of monitor and diagnostic system. The design of GUI (Graphical User Interface) based on Qt/Embedded has been finished.
