The Study On Public Space Design In New Rural Planning

The public space in the village, closely relating to the people's life and production, is the site for public activity. When people lives in a certain environment for long period, the relation between the life, production and the behavior of a person must be established. Meanwhile, the people's life style, values, national identity and regional culture will be reflected through the environment of public space. However, with the rapid development of social productivity, the culture of each nation is internationalized increasingly. The unique regional cultures of some nations are fading gradually, especially on the public space design in new countryside planning. Many designers are blind to pursue the modern life style, neglecting the previous local cultural character. From the peasants' point of view, their income has been increased and the living standard has been improved as well since the reform of economic system in China. As a result, the settlement life style formed in long period has been disturbed, and the previous profound regional cultural character disappears gradually. In the paper, Shaanxi countryside is selected as the type studied, the analysis and study are also carried out for the public space of selected village, and space constituent element that relates to the people's life and communication. Through several field investigation, deeply understanding of the interaction and relation between the people' s activity, public space and environment element, the method combining the comprehensive analysis with living example is adopted to analyze the influence of the form of village, geographical & topographical feature, and natural climate on the public space and the reflection of regional culture in the space constituent element from the theory of sociology, environmentology, behavioristics and aesthetics.According to above study and analysis, we can conclude that village public space and constituent element are the embodiment of regional culture. In the planning and design of new rural public space, we should carry forward the regional cultural characters of traditional village, and build the village public space that combines the traditional with modern culture and is suitable for the rural life of new era.
